Michael de Meng sees himself as an alchemist. Instead of lead, he “take[s] gears, typewriters, and irons, and tr[ies] to transmutate these ordinary objects into something of wonder…”
He starts with a myth and creates his artwork from that. He draws his myths from many different cultures. He creates one sculpture or shrine that represents the essence of the story.
I identify with this notion of narrative behind an artwork.
