365 Days, Day 184

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful (Norman Vincent Peale)

The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other (Burton Hillis)

I wish we could put up some of the Christmas spirit in jars and open a jar of it every month (Harlan Miller)

The tree is decorated, the wreath is at the front door, the overseas Christmas cards have been sent. Some, not all of the overseas presents have been organised.

The Ghost of Christmas Past whispers in my ear of happy times spent with family. It conjures up the excitement of being a child and seeing the presents laid out under the Christmas tree. It recreates the thrill of a child opening presents. The smell of mice pies (haha! I actually wrote this - Tom pointed out that I was cruel and unusual, even though I profess to lamenting the fate of poor bunnies destined for the pot, I seem not to have the same sympathetic feelings towards a poor little squeaky-mouse! ) [>> should read:] "mince" pies lingers in my nostrils. And the Christmas pudding with brandy custard and ice-cream. I hear the laughter of the extended family at lunch time around a huge table. Crackers are being pulled, exclamations, chatterings, cutlery clinking against plates…

The Ghost of Christmas Present draws me back and gently says, “Don’t dwell in the past. Keep the memories and use them to forge your own new traditions.”

So Christmas lunch will be just the three of us: Tom, AriƩl and me. We will bring out the heirloom china and canteen of cutlery. We will lay our own exquisite table with napkins and decorations. We will do this with Love. We will live in the moment.

What are you doing this Christmas?
