365 Days, Day 43

When you walk through these poems, tread softly because you tread upon my dreams. (W. B. Yeats)

Only in our dreams are we free. The rest of the time we need wages. (Terry Pratchett)

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes. (Carl Jung)

My dreams are busy and bizarre.

There are houses

With doors and new rooms

I have never seen before behind the doors.

There are stairs.

I can fly.

My life is a dream.

I live outside

My skin

Looking in.

I awake.

Kyle and Roarke are identical. Yet their fingerprints are different, albeit very similar. People often ask if they are intuitive with each: if they know what one another is thinking. I don’t know. When they were little they used to complete each other’s sentences. I do know they dreamed the same dreams. They used to have ‘night terrors’ where they would walk and talk in their sleep. I would pick them onto my lap and calm them. I could ask them about what they dreaming and they would tell me, whilst still asleep (having no recollection of this in the morning). Kyle used to stroke my long hair and gradually realise it was me. One night Kyle woke up crying and walking and talking about his dream. I gave him my hair to stroke, saying, “It’s alright, Kyle, it’s mommy.” He calmed down. I took him back to bed and settled him down. A few minutes later he woke crying again, or so I thought. On going to their room, I found it was Roarke this time: telling me the same scary dream!

I love childrens’ reality. Seeing the world through a child’s eyes is like looking at the world through rose tinted glasses. Surrealism.

I had to smile at a story I heard from Ariel’s dancing teacher, Mandy Garratt (she used to dance with Mandy when she was at primary school). Mandy’s son, Kyle cam out dressed with a headband and knee pads and announced he was a ninja! She asked him (as she was not what his understanding of a ninja was) “What do ninja’s do?” Without skipping a beat he replied, “They ninj!”

So I will keep my rose-tinted glasses of reality on and continue seeing the world through a child’s eyes. A dream world. Surreal.

  1. I love my fantasy world - where the hollywood romance exsists and knights and heros still rescue their maidens fair.
