365 Days, Day 121

If the essence of my being has caused a smile to have appeared upon your face or a touch of joy within your heart, then in living - I have made my mark (Thomas L. Odem, Jr.)

No great genius has ever existed without some touch of madness (Aristotle)

We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit (e. e. Cummings)

Today I have touched: my duvet as I pulled it over my head when Lily squeaked a some pre-dawn hour; Lily’s soft black fur; my woolly socks; my silky hair when I washed it; a plastic bottle which Lily chewed; the cold floor when I scrubbed it; the warm washing from the tumble dryer; a cup of hot coffee (I left it to cool before I drank it); a crunchy autumn leaf (a red one - like the autumn leaves I used to collect for Autumn week when I taught nursery school. I found a box of nursery school prep when I was throwing things out in the studio. I thought I had given ALL of my nursery school prep away, but this one box was lurking. Do you think I threw it away?); some soft gooey Camembert cheese; the silver chains on my elephant jewel box; soft slippery ribbon; my pc mouse; a spider web (I walked into a head-height spider web and I’m sure my forehead actually touched the spider in the middle of it ughh!); Lily’s rough feet; I felt the smooth touch of a free Lindt promotion chocolate I got in Tesco’s today, it coated the inside of mouth with soft creaminess.

I am not sure I touched anyone’s heart today though… I remember walking into Yo-Sushi in London recently and smiling (as one does) at a man, sitting with his son in the restaurant. As he was about to leave, he came over to the table and said, I don’t usually do this, but I just wanted to say you have a beautiful smile. Well, his words touched my heart, and really made my day.

I have started a new blog to run concurrently with this one, more just to see if I could make my own blog. http://whimsy-deidre.blogspot.com/

It doesn’t have any followers yet…
